Build
your own pesticide
poisoning surveillance program.
This book tells you how.
The
situation: Pesticide
poisoning is a complex condition that encompasses many illnesses
and injuries created
by single or mixed exposures to pesticide products. This complexity
combined with the technical resources required for case investigation
suggested the need for a comprehensive how-to manual that would guide
agencies seeking to create a pesticide surveillance program.
In
2004, the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention/National Institute for
Occupational Safety and Health began work on just such a
manual. While much of the copy editing was done in-house, they
recognized the need for an outside eye, especially with regard
to the appendices. They commissioned Cyrano to bring accuracy
and stylistic and editorial consistency to these 150 pages of heavily
concentrated
technical, medical, statistical, and graphic material
. We then provided final-stage
copy editing of the draft document’s first 9 chapters for
clarity, consistency, and language mechanics.
The
250-page manual is designed for use nationally by state health
departments. Other
target audiences include local agencies, other state and federal
government agencies,
and international agencies, and members of the public interested in pesticide
poisoning. Those interested in a closer look can download the manual from
the NIOSH
Website.
